Thing 6--and what a thing it is!

I had some trouble with this one. I did not really like the way Bloglines was set up. I will have to experiment with some others to see if they get better. There was something just not comfortable about it, and I don't know what it was.

I did end up figuring it out, and if I were more of a "newsy" person I would have enjoyed this a little more. I did like that I could hook up with things from NLC, and other library things. Maybe after the election I can get back into enjoying news--but not now.

I know, it's used for more than just news. And it has some potential. Patrons could use it to keep track of health issues. Students could use it to find all of the articles on a certain topic that they are researching. It has possibilities. I will just have to work more with it to see if I can become more comfortable using it. That would help me.

I understand exactly what you mean about Bloglines. It’s not for me. When you have time you should try Google Reader. That’s my reader of choice.

I’ve also never been much of a “newsy” person but its surprising how much more news I’m aware of now that I’ve started getting via RSS. I find it easy just to scan the titles of the articles and read just those that interest me. Even just scanning the titles helps me be aware of what’s going on in the world.

I don't like Bloglines either and I'm not keen on the term "newsreader". I had been using Google Reader for some personal things I follow and I like it better. I use Google a lot for email, chat and searching and for me it just makes sense to have everything in one place.

Google Reader also has the option to "tag" the feeds in addition to organizing them into folders. I really like that idea because I tend to save a lot of stuff I want to read and have trouble organizing it.
